Os Afrosambas – by Baden Powell / Vinícius de Moraes
Written & edited by Bruno Passos
These days, music suggestions seem to need to come from a strange, hidden and unfamiliar place, as if it were more meritorious to find an album than to make it. This will not be the case here, “Os Afrosambas” by Baden Powell and Vinícius de Moraes is one of the best Brazilian records of all time.
In it you find the sadness hidden in the tropics and resignation, but it is also introduced to the mystery of the unsaid, to the poetic and epic character that Brazilians manage to imprint on everything that is everyday. The track “Canto de Ossanha” is not a song, it’s a spell.
